Planning Your Hamptons Route
Airport choice matters. JFK handles the most domestic and international flights, making it the default for most travelers. LaGuardia is convenient for East Coast shuttle flights but adds 20 to 30 minutes to the drive because of its location in northern Queens. MacArthur Airport in Islip is the shortcut that most visitors overlook: it sits on Long Island itself, which means no bridges, no NYC traffic, and drive times under an hour to most Hamptons towns. If your airline flies into MacArthur, it is almost always the fastest option.
Timing is everything. Friday afternoon traffic between Memorial Day and Labor Day can double your drive time from JFK or Manhattan. The worst window is 3pm to 7pm heading eastbound on the Long Island Expressway (LIE). Sunday returns peak between 4pm and 8pm. If you have flexibility, travel midweek or early morning to cut your trip time significantly. Our drivers know alternate routes (Sunrise Highway, Route 27, North Road) that save 20 to 40 minutes during peak congestion.
Direction matters. "To the Hamptons" routes are about arrival: flight tracking, curbside meet-and-greet, and getting you settled at your destination. "From the Hamptons" routes are about departure logistics: early morning pickups, building in time buffers for your flight, and luggage handling. We recommend arriving at the airport 90 minutes before domestic flights and 2.5 hours before international flights, then work backward to set your pickup time.
Manhattan routes offer door-to-door service from any address in the city. No parking at either end, productive backseat time with WiFi and phone chargers, and a smooth transition from city to shore. These routes are especially popular with clients who want to work during the drive or simply avoid the stress of navigating Long Island traffic themselves.
