Southampton is old-money elegance: Coopers Beach (regularly voted among America's best), fine dining on Jobs Lane, and the country's oldest golf courses. East Hampton is the art colony turned celebrity hotspot, with Guild Hall galleries, boutique shopping on Newtown Lane, and Main Beach. If you want to spot someone famous, this is your town. Montauk is completely different: surfing, sport fishing, the iconic lighthouse, and casual restaurants where flip-flops are the dress code. It is where the Hamptons get rugged.
Sag Harbor is a former whaling village with independent bookshops, the American Hotel bar, Bay Street Theater, and a bustling marina. It has a walkable downtown that feels more like New England than Long Island. Bridgehampton sits at the center of the Hamptons, known for the polo matches, Candy Kitchen, and the equestrian scene.
